10:43 pm: Facebook is where its at!
A little birdie just let me know that I haven't posted on here for 21 weeks...so here I am posting away, post post post....
Erm...I'm stressing over exams at the moment. I had a 3 hour french grammar one this afternoon and now I'm trying to revise 200 years of German history for an exam tomorrow morning...hmmm I'm thinking that it's not gonna happen lol

But my last one is this Thursday! Yay! After which I shall be partying like some kind of crazy-bitch-from-hell =D

I'll be back in bracknell on 3rd June (if my parents come and get me)

So I will hopefully see everyone soon!

love Claire

04:32 pm: Excessive use of exclemation marks!!!!!!!!!!!
Yay I'm back in Bracknell.

Soo excited about Christmas and seeing people on Wednesday!!!  =D

I have no job and only one essay to do over the holidays, so if anyone wants to meet up any other time that would be cool! Especially as I've only been home for 3 days and my parents are already driving me crazy!?!!

Dum de dum...I've finished knitting my tea cosy ( a christmas pressie for my Nan) but it looks bloomin' awful so I'm gonna try again...should have time before she comes to stay.

Also, I went to the dentist this morning and there was a girl working there who I think was in our year at EP, but I can't remember her name. We both gave each other the 'i-think-i-recognise-you-but-I'm-not-going-to-say-anything' look.

Anywhooo, see you soon. =)

10:19 pm:

I've had a bit of a crappy day today. I have loads of French work to do and I, very optimistically, thought I'd get it all done today...which I haven't.
Not even one bit of it meh. Oh well I'll just have to crack on with it tomorrow I guess.

I can't be bothered with Uni anymore, I just want it to be Christmas! And I have soo much work that I can't even go out.
I am going to a Christmas Ball thingy at Manor next Friday though, which should be good =)

Oh that reminds me! I made a complete twat of myself yesterday by trying to talk to this guy I like.
Excrutiatingly embarassing.
It makes me cringe just thinking about it. Lol.
It was worth a try though.

Does anyone want anything specific for Christmas?
Cos if not, I might get people pressies from the cool German Christmas market.

10:54 am: Shared Planet

During Freshers week I joined a society called People and Planet, which campaigns for action on Climate Change and other humanitarian issues eg. AIDS treatment for everyone who needs it.

This weekend I went to Shared Planet in London, a big get together of People and Planet groups from Unis and Sixth Forms all round the country. We got to listen to some amazing speakers like George Monbiot (talking about Climate Change) and we did workshops on Sunday morning.
Also on the Saturday I took part in the P&P bit of the march about Climate Change, which went from UCL to Trafalgar Square where there were more speakers and stuff. It was soo much fun!!! And it was the biggest Climate change march ever with 30,000 people in London and other marches in major cities around the world.

The workshops I went to on Sunday were about how to lobby your MP, and about decentralising power (eg. electricity). The second one was really intersting...and I found out something really fucking stupid; the current centralised electricity power stations lose two thirds of the energy they produce in heat!!!! So only one third of the fossil fuels burnt is actually transferred into electricity. You'd think that in the 20 or so years that we have known about climate change that someone would have realised that this was maybe a bad idea...but no...we are still left with power stations that are only about 30% efficient whereas if we introduce decentralised power with smaller power stations where the heat produced could be used to heat local homes and businesses, they would be about 99% efficient.

Something really has to be done. I know in the past we thought climate change would only be a problem for our children or our children's children but according to recent studies it could happen soon...really soon...maybe even in the next 10/20 years.

I'm sorry to go on about something a bit depressing, but I really do feel that its down to normal people and campaigners etc to make sure that something is done. Blair says that he is taking climate change very seriously but in the last 9 years he has done pretty much fuck all.

10:57 am: Mmmm...fresher's flu...
Urgh I have been ill ALL WEEK and its starting to get very annoying! =) It's made worse by the fact that I didn't even get ill from going out too much (because I hardly have), but from sitting next to an infected person in a lecture! How rude.

Apart from that I've had quite a good week. My japanese lessons are really fun! lol but this weekend I need to try and learn about 40 Hiragana characters and how to write them... should be interesting =)

I've got loads of other work to do this weekend too...and my brain is a bit impaired (possibly from all the phlegm lol)....so I'd better get started on it.

i hope everyone is ok!

Having just read Jenny's entry about HSBC I thought I'd also have a moan about money-related things.
I was meant to have got my student loan yesterday and it still hasn't come throught yet...so I have NO MONEY. Even though I'm supposed to be buying books and stuff. GRRRrrrr...

06:56 pm:

Hello people, I feel i should write something on here seeing as I haven't posted in over a month!

I'm now at Birmingham Uni, here's my address in case anyone wants to send me chocolates or come and visit me (both would be eagerly anticipated!!!!!!)

Manor House, Bristol Road South, Northfield, Birmingham, B31 2AE

Freshers week has been ok so far... I haven't been very 'studenty' yet though because I've only gone to events in my halls....everywhere else is too far away! and I like my sleep. Luckily I've found some other people who share my opinion on staying out late =) Although saying that, I think I might try clubbing tomorrow night...because I already paid for a Freshers Fest pack (£25!) so I should really try to get my money's worth.

I'm in an all girls flat, and they are all really nice. I seem to be in the posh bit of Manor House ie. ensuite bathrooms, so some of the girls I live with are a tad stuck up....

Yesterday I went up to the Uni (3 miles from my halls) and I got my ID card, and ordered my NUS card- soo many discounts! And today I went for meetings about my course. Tried to find the Strathcona building for my first meeting , only to find loads of builders still finishing it!
I had meetings for modern languages, german, japanese and french...all good...but my timetable is confusing, and I have to pretty much sort it our for myself. On the plus side, I found the one person who is doing exactly the same degree as me! His name is Alex and he is scarily good at German. I also met a girl who really remined me of Melina... spooky...
I also went and bought a bus pass for a whopping £150! But it is for trains into the town centre as well, and the buses are reallt expensive to the Uni, a journey i'll have to make every day. But someone was just telling me that you can get a bus pass for free....I hope that's not true or I may have to cry for all my lost pennies =-(...oh well you live and learn.

I hope you guys are all well, and thanks to everone who has texted me over the last few days...they were all really nice and made me smile.

02:58 pm:

My sister has been working at Legoland all summer and she managed to get four free tickets, so me, her and our parents went yesterday.

We got there really early and managed to get on all the biggest rides with hardly and queue at all. Oh and before that we went into the big lego shop at the Entrance/Exit and I heard someone behind me say..."is that Claire Mothersole?" I spun round and it was none other than Joe (Darlington)! Lol it was a big surpirse as I had no idea that he even had a job, let alone at legoland. (lol I also saw him later when we were leaving, and he was dressed up as a pirate he he he =D)

Anyways...the first ride we went on was called Junglecoaster, and my sister went all wimpy and saying that she didn't want to go on it, when there were tiny little children going on it quite happily! But she enjoyed it anyway. Then we went on Pirate Falls (like Loggers Leap) and the Dragon rollercoaster. They were all quite good, but a bit lame because they were meant for actual children, and not people just trying to re-live their childhood (like me).

Then we went and saw the 'Johnny Thunder Show' which was quite entertaining...lots of pretend fighting, people getting wet etc ... Then we went and did Boat School, which is when you have to 'drive' a boat around a little course. Laura controlled the accelerator and I steered...so we didn't do that well lol
Then I ate a waffle on a stick, covered in chocolate and sprinkles mmmm

So it was quite a successful day. We also went and saw where Laura has been working, its an educational type thing, where kids can go and build things out of Lego and then test them. It looked really good.

04:00 pm:

I was sent lots of information from Birmingham Uni the other day.
Including my accomodation details....for the next year I am going to be living here

Manor House, Block M, Room 24.

I also have loads of forms to fill in, most of which need passport photos...grr. And I have to sort out Insurance, TV licence, etc.
It looks fun though, Manor House is quite separate from the main campus so it does loads of its own Freshers activities and they are all free entry...which is handy because I don't think I'm gonna have much money.
It being far away does mean I will have a bit of a long walk to lectures and libraries...but I don't really mind. I'll probably need the exercise =D

It's all getting a bit scary.

04:07 pm: V Festival
I'm soo tired.

Over the weekend I went to the V Festival in Staffordshire with my sister. (Yes when I bought the tickets I didn't realise how far away Stafford is blah, blah =D) We went up on the train and stayed overnight, and then came home this morning.

We saw Kula Shaker, Magic Numbers, the Cardigans, We Are Scientists, Beck and RADIOHEAD! They were all really good. Beck had really cool puppets of him and his band, and they were on a mini stage behind the band, with puppeteers mimicing the actual band, and it was shown on the big screens lol.
Radiohead were amazing. They played a mixture of songs from Ok Computer, The bends, Amnesiac and Hail To The Thief and some other ones I didn't recognise...and a new song which was really good. We had to leave early to catch a shuttle bus so Laura had to physically drag me away from the main stage...I heard the end of their set from a distance though.

It was really muddy so I wore wellies, but I now have very painful legs because I'm incapable of walking properly in wellies. lol

04:14 pm: A Level Results

I got an A in history and Cs in both French and German (oh and a B in General Studies)
I was quite upset with my grades because I needed ABB to do Modern Languages at Birmingham.
But I called them and they said that they're going to give me a place anyway! =D
I'm so relieved.

I really hope everyone else got what they wanted/ needed to get into Uni.

07:37 pm: I havn't written an entry in ages because I havn't done anything particuarly interesting...and because I'm lazy =D

I am currently way too obsessed by Big Brother, and I'm quite relieved that it ends this Friday or it might take over my whole life.
(Ahh Pete and Nikki *sobs*)

I think I need to sort out going to school on Thursday...for the 'you know whats'....Helen and Jenny- do you still wanna walk together? And are we going out for a drink in the evening?=)

I have a sore lip and a sore little finger because I have been teaching myself to play the saxophone (it was a pressie for my 18th). I'm completely rubbish at it at the moment, but practise makes perfect.

I also have a sore arm because I gave blood on Friday and the nurse-lady was a bit over keen with all the needle stabbing etc. Lol I also fainted afterwards which was possibly the weirdest experience I have ever had... and then I was force fed lemon squash and biscuits until I didn't feel light headed anymore =D And I got a free keyring! score

04:27 pm:

Today I went speed shopping in Reading. People seem to think that I know something about trains and buses because at least 3 people asked me which train/bus to get ...I always worry I told them the wrong thing (oops)

It is my sister's birthday on Saturday and I needed to get her last minute pressies. I bought her the most fuck off amazing dress I have ever seen...she better like it or I'm having it =D
It was very hot in Reading, although surprisingly there weren't that many chavs....except one idiot who was only wearing what looked like boxer shorts! I mean...really?!

Also a guy in HMV told me that he liked my t-shirt. lol. I was embarrassed.

Anyways, on Tuesday I went and saw Superman Returns with Iain and Kari-Anne. It was AWESOME. The guy who plays Superman is pretty, the special effects were great and Kevin Spacey(!) is in it. We also got refunds for our tickets because the 'clever' people at the Odeon (previously UCI) told us the wrong screen to go to, so us and about 8 other people were all sat there none the wiser for HALF AN HOUR....until Kari-Anne went and told them that the film hadn't started. It was quite funny....but if I ever have to watch cinema adverts again in my entire life it will be too soon.

11:11 am: I went to see the RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS last night at Earl's Court and I have to agree with Lusana and Helen that they are AMAZING! Possibly even better than when I saw them at V three years ago...

Their set was a great mix of old and new songs...I can't believe they played Right On Time, I LOVE that song...and Me And My Friends was just plain awesome... Tell Me Baby and By The Way made everyone go wild!

I also really liked the support act...I have no idea  what their name was though. They were the band with the singer who does the cool dance. They did mention that they are playing gigs in Islington and the Carling Academy and I kinda wanna see them again...mainly for the dance lol.

The Chili Peppers came on at 8:30 and were finished my 10:30 (must be their old age) but it was good for us cos we were safe and sound back home by midnight.

Does anyone want to do something? Please?! Before I start going slowly insane...

10:35 am:

I got home from holiday yesterday. Went to Madeira (portugeese island off the coast of North Africa) with my family.

It was all sunny and blue sky there, so its a little bit depressing to be back in windy Bracknell. Ah well =D

I had quite a good time, despite feeling slightly freakish for being in the minority or tall, pale, blonde people...I got some very odd looks. lol

We did some sight seeing, and lots of supposedly 'traditional Madeiran' stuff... like going up a really steep hill called Monte, and then being pushed down it in a wicker basket...with two men making sure you narrowly miss the cars going in the opposite direction. Twas fun...they don't seem to believe in health and safety =)
We also did wine tasing cos Madeira is famous for its wine...but I just got immensely sloshed (wine has that effect on me) and I also tried this drink called Poncha (aka 'fire water') which is like 20% alcohol and made my ears hurt when I drank it. I brought some home with me if anyone would like to try? ...it certainly is an experience...

So yeah...how are everyone else's holidays going?
